Thermal Testing SYSTEMS
High temperature, and high velocity heat cycle testing.
· OTTR (Overhead Thermal Test Rig)
System Description:
CMI’s Manufacturing and Development Center has onsite cutting, machining & turning capabilities, sheet metal cutting/forming operations, 3-axis CNC plasma cutting, and full manual/robotic welding capabilities to support any necessary test sample fixturing. |
The BEVR
(Big Engine V-22 Rig) · System Description: • Single propane heater with a high-pressure blower capable of heat delivery rates up to 2.8 MBTU/hr (820 kW) • Temperatures up to 500˚F (260˚C) and heat transfer coefficients of up to 31 BTU/ft^2hrR (175 W/m^2K) • Frequently operated with nozzle diameters ranging from 8 in to 10 in, although larger and smaller ones can be used • Maximum velocities approaching 350 mph (dependent on nozzle diameter) • Accommodates 8 ft x 8 ft samples and larger Dedicated data acquisition systems for exhaust temperature and air velocity (heat transfer coefficient), test specimen temperature, and strain measurements |
Measurements:
- Test temperatures as a function of cycle number - Dynamic pressure and velocity of exhaust gas - Optical microscopy of test specimens. |
Analyses:
- Thermal evolution of expeditionary air fields - Coating performance and durability - Life-cycle testing of high-temperature concretes, metal, composite panels, expansion joints and most equipment that needs thermal shock damage testing. |
·There are several advantages to scheduling your tests with CMI:
CMI Testing Services performs evaluation and threshold qualification of materials that will be subjected to the hot exhaust, such as seen in the aircraft industry, the oil industry as well as the automotive production and foundries.
· Cost:
For a fraction of the cost of live testing, that can be prohibitively expensive,CMI's Large scale testing can provide
lower test costs and mean the ability to run more tests and possibly explore a larger test matrix. CMI Testing Services can receive samples, prepare the setup, and conduct the tests with or without the requester being present.
· Experience:
Several of CMI’s staff responsible for testing design and execution are experts in Materials Engineering and have each performed Thermal Testing for several years.
