CMI's engineering experienced and knowledgeable staff of materials engineers and research scientists has spent years identifying and comprehending the complex interaction of blast waves or ballistic projectiles on targets and other structures. Their insight and understanding of the mechanics of blast and ballistic events has allowed the team to develop descriptive FEA models describing and predicting behavior of periodic cellular materials - or PCMs - and other materials when placed under extreme conditions. Using composite layers, CMI's MicroTruss® panels have demonstrated a unique ability to absorb the energy and delay the arrival of the energy wave generated by a blast event, all at an advantageous areal density compared to other solutions.
Ballistic ProtectionCMI and Military planners have worked together to develop unique panel designs to produce light and robust vehicle ballistic armor sytems. CMI has also produced effective low-cost non-personnel ballistic armor available to industry and the public.

Blast ProtectionThrough work with the Amy and Homeland Security, CMI continues to advanced the limits of lightweight panels to provide protection for structures and vehicles from the devastating effects of close-in and undercarriage blasts and IEDs.

Thermal ManagementCMI has worked closely with Navy planners and shipbuilders to provide large-scale heat pipe solutions to protect the ship deck from damage and deck personnel from injury
